Rooms
Proserpine Nursing Home (PNH) has 104 beds and 12 of these are dedicated to secure dementia care. The Home is established in the residential area of Proserpine and all shops and services are within 2 Km of the Home. The buildings are set around lawns and garden areas with a gazebo central to the main lifestyle activities area. Each room has modern furnishings of good quality and in good condition, air conditioning , electric bed, and bedside table, over bed dining table, vinyl flooring, generous space for wall hangings of your choice, built in wardrobes with ample hanging and storage space, and discretely placed ensuite doors. Each room has a ceiling light in the room and ensuite. A comfortable day chair is provided and visitors chairs are available. Doorways are double leafed to enable easy access for lifters or for entire beds to be wheeled into activity or lounge areas. Rooms have large windows and plenty of natural light. Block out curtains allow the room to be darkened at the residents convenience. White cotton sheets and pillow slips are provided and thermal or cotton blankets are available for the cooler weather. There are crocheted/quilted bed covers or you can choose to bring your own quilt or bed cover. Ensuites are over 5 m2 with non slip flooring and no steps or lips. Both rooms and ensuites are equipped with emergency call bells.
Activities
Activities and outings are coordinated by a Diversional Therapist. Many Community organisations and talented individuals visit the Home to provide entertainment, music and games. The “Activities Calendar” lists day by day, what events will take place. Every resident receives one for their private room.
Some activities we enjoy are; Outings, bingo, hoy, movement to music, singing sessions, happy hour, Lions birthday party once a month, beauty therapy, hands on care, friendship club, craft groups, card afternoons, cooking, word games and much more.
Aviary
There is an onsite aviary which is located in our Cafe area for residents, family and friends to sit and enjoy.
Food & Nutrition
The facility has a cook onsite and is pleased to offer meals that are well balanced, fresh and tasty home style food for each meal and a variety of baked treats every day. Our meals are approved by qualified dieticians to maximise nutritional balance. You may choose to eat in one of our dining rooms or, if you’d prefer, you can dine in the peace and comfort of your own room.
All meals are provided, including morning and afternoon tea as well as supper. Meals are served in the dining room and, unless there is a contrary medical reason, residents are expected to attend the dining room for meals.
Breakfast – Served between 8:00am to 8:30am
Morning Tea – 10:00am
Lunch – Served at 12 Midday
Afternoon Tea – 2:00pm
Dinner – Served between 5:00pm – 5:30pm
Supper – 7:00pm
The menu is very comprehensive and residents have the opportunity to have input on the menu and presentation of food in our annual survey. Residents can also give feedback about the food at any time on any day by talking to our staff or completing a Feedback Form. Special diets will be delivered for medical reasons or cultural/religious beliefs. If you have difficulties eating, food can be served in a softer form and residents will be assisted with meals if necessary.
A meal can be kept for you if you are absent at meal time for any reason.
Hairdresser
A qualified hairdresser visits the Home every week to provide haircuts, trims, and perms. The cost of hairdressing is to be met by the resident. The hairdresser charges affordable prices to pensioners. We have a professional hairdressing salon in the home for all consumers enjoyment. Please ask staff to add your name to the hairdresser’s list if you require this service.
Library
The local library visits the Home fortnightly and provides a book exchange for consumers participation and enjoyment.
Our mail is collected daily from the local Post Office. Consumers personal mail will be delivered as it arrives. If consumers need to post mail, letters can be left with the Activities Officer, Registered Nurse or at the Reception Office. Mail is posted daily and stamps are available for purchase from reception office.
Visiting Pets
We welcome visiting pets under the control of their owner who is responsible for cleaning up after them and not bringing them into the dining room or kitchen areas.
Refrigerators
Residents are welcome to have their own bar refrigerator in their room. It is the resident’s responsibility to clean the refrigerator and ensure that food in the refrigerator is dated. If the refrigerator is not kept clean the cleaning staff will clean the refrigerator and charge an amount of $10 to the residents account. A safe food guide is given to all residents/representatives on admission. Our staff will check the refrigerator regularly and any food that is not dated or is out of date or spoiled will be discarded.
Religion
Anglican Service is held every Tuesday at 9:30am. Catholic Service is held every Tuesday at 9:30am. There is also an ecumenical service twice per month on the first and third Wednesday. If you wish to see your Minister of Religion, ask the Registered Nurse or Diversional Therapist to arrange this for you.
Telephones & Internet
A land line phone can be connected in the consumer’s room. All connections and associated calls costs will be charged to the consumer’s account. There is free wi-fi available in the facility common areas however, there is a separate fee for room wi-fi usage.
If you do not have a telephone in your room, the Home has cordless phones which will enable you to receive incoming calls anywhere in the building. The Home’s general number is (07) 4945 2666.
Mobile phones can be used anywhere and private land line phones can be connected but this needs to be arranged by the resident themselves and at the residents expense.
Therapies
If you choose to have remedial therapies such as a massage, the Home will assist you to arrange. This cost will appear on the resident’s monthly account.
Toiletries
Toiletry items are provided by the Home for your own personal use. These items are provided at no extra charge. The nursing staff will check that you have sufficient items for your needs and will restock as necessary. If you wish to exercise your freedom of choice and purchase items more to your liking, then the home does not have any financial responsibility for those items.
Transport
The Home does not provide transport for resident’s private appointments. It is expected that family or representatives will arrange transport for resident’s private appointments. Under certain circumstances and at the discretion of the Manager, the Home can provide transport and/or staff accompaniment for resident appointments. The associated cost commences at $50 for bus and the hourly wage rate for staff member accompanying the consumer and the hourly wage rate for the bus driver calculated for duration of service.
All appointments need to be requested in advance for approximate costing. The cost will be charged to the consumer’s account.
Visiting
Family and friends are welcome to visit anytime between 8am and 4pm Monday to Sunday. Visitors must be sign in upon entry and exit to the facility via the sign in tablets next to admin . Family may stay with loved ones in times of sickness. If you wish to stay overnight with a loved one we will make every effort to accommodate you.
A family member or friend may have a meal with you for a minimal charge. Please give sufficient notice to staff so the kitchen can cater for extra meals.
