About Us
Proserpine Nursing Home Inc. is a not-for-profit, community based organisation started up by some generous, community minded citizens in the mid-1980s. We are incorporated as an Association under the Associations and Incorporations Act 1981, administered by the Office of Fair Trading Qld. The Home is governed by a Management Committee guided by our Constitution. The Management Committee provides governance and gives direction to the General Manager who is responsible for the day to day operations of the Home.
Anyone can become a Member of the Association and we especially encourage and welcome membership from the local community and representatives of our residents. All Boards need new Directors from time to time and we would like you to share your life experiences or special skills and knowledge by joining our Association. If you are interested in helping secure the future of our Home please contact the General Manager on 07 4945 2666.
History
Proserpine Nursing Home opened as a 30 bed nursing home in April, 1986. In October 1990, Hazelwood Hostel was opened offering 15 new individual low care beds. Growth continued, and in September of 2000, Whitsunday Wing was added with another 12 self-contained rooms. In 2003, a 12 bed secure unit named Windermere, Administration offices and our activities room, Lethebrook, were added. Due to expansion in 2006, the kitchen and laundry were re-established in another area within the grounds. 2010 saw the old kitchen / laundry area then refurbished into 5 single and 1 new double independent rooms.
With our 25 years celebrated in 2011, a further complex was opened in July 2012, comprising 44 rooms over 2 floors. This building allowed the Residents in the original nursing home area to be relocated to Crystalbrook, along with a further 18 new Residents. The original home may now be refurbished to comply with single room status. This will allow the accommodation of more residents in the future. 2013 saw the first of the old nursing home rooms refurbished taking us to a occupancy of 87 Residents. Due to Cyclone Debbie, in March 2017, repairs were needed to Whitsunday Wing which allowed refurbishment of this wing. Residents were temporarily moved to the new Tawvale Wing which was the remainder of the old nursing home which was refurbished in 2018 proudly taking us up to our full licensed occupancy of 104 residents.
